  • What is National Insurance Disability Scheme (NDIS) Counselling?

NDIS therapy focuses on helping participants tackle problems that affect their daily living. Creating trust and a sense of safety, participants can find positive and effective solutions to help them overcome challenges.

  • How can NDIS Counselling help?

Part of life is dealing with challenges. We all need support at times. NDIS participants (like all of us) may require assistance with issues such as:

People living with a disability may also be experiencing many other difficult challenges in life - related to their disability. For example: discrimination, isolation, physical and emotional barriers, insensitivity from others, as well as ongoing mental health issues.

Participants may be dealing with difficult issues such as:

NDIS counselling is there to support you as you go through challenging times. But it’s also a way to develop your confidence and sense of self, so you can tackle day to day living with more assurance and optimism. Whether it’s a big issue you’ve been trying to cope with, or a smaller goal to help you improve your daily living, counselling is a valuable therapeutic support provided by an allied health professional who is focused on YOUR needs. No issue is too big or small. There are many ways a counsellor can support you in your personal journey to reach your goals and improve wellbeing. Some capacity building suggestions might be:

    • Time management and organisational skills
    • Communication and developing social skills
    • Learning how to see the different perspectives of others
    • Job seeking

Above all, NDIS counselling is flexible and can be adapted to suit your needs and the areas you want to focus on. You direct the scope of the work we do together and the direction we take during sessions. Often a great starting point is to explore who it is you want to be in life, identify your personal values, and learn ways to incorporate these into your daily living. The objective here is for you to feel more empowered so you can go on to live the life you want for yourself.

Let me know what you’re interested in and let’s see if we can work together to achieve your goals!

  • How does NDIS Counselling work?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Guidelines state that counselling can be provided under “Therapeutic Supports” to NDIS participants who have either a Self-Managed or Plan Managed package.

The approach used is built on encouragement and trust, enabling the participant to feel comfortable in discussing their issues. Counselling will help in identifying the root cause of issues and we’ll work together to develop strategies for minimising or eliminating these. The participant will never be told what to do; but rather we’ll work together on reaching the outcome they want from the sessions.

  • What is the NDIS counselling process?

    Ongoing sessions may include:

    • Getting to know the needs, aspirations, and goals of the participant.

    • Helping the participant in developing healthy and effective coping strategies that can assist in stressful situations.

    • Monitoring the progress and growth of the participant.
