What is a counsellor?

Counsellors aim to create a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential environment in which clients can feel free to discuss their concerns openly. Your counsellor will work with you to identify the goal you’d like to achieve through counselling, and then use a variety of evidence based therapeutic interventions to help you reach your desired outcome.


Counsellors can help their clients to develop coping strategies, to improve their communication and problem-solving skills, and to build more fulfilling and healthy relationships. A counsellor will provide you with opportunities to examine your current circumstances and identify and challenge any negative thoughts or behaviours that may be interfering with you living the life that you want.
